Blue Hills by Dawn Donnelly

Honorable Mention, Professional Mixed Media

My intent was to use a variety of paper techniques and threads, move from dark blue to beige and work without a structured design. I randomly placed wavy lines on 13-count mono canvas and painted the background brown.

I used the handmade paper as follows:
–I used a template from one of the areas to cut out a wavy section from handmade paper, which was attached using a butterfly chain stitch.
–I tore a long strip of paper and tacked down one end.
–I rolled the handmade paper and couched it down with pearl cotton.
–Using torn blue scraps, I placed them behind long blue stitches.
