The Hummingbird by Kim Berry-Rogers

I am fortunate, on occasion, to catch a hummingbird in my garden. They are so mysterious and elusive. This beautiful bird was a photograph that caught my eye. I immediately imagined how I would stitch him and wanted to see if my vision could translate into fabric and thread.

I started with a piece of plain white cotton fabric. I then painted the background color and the subject matter in the photo. I let everything dry completely and I started stitching. I wanted it to have a lot of texture and to burst with color! I left several areas painted for contrast. This was based on a royalty free photo by Marvin B.
