I visited a shop and saw a fabric picture of a skyline created by using neckties for the buildings. This set off an idea in my head to make a skyline using diaper patterns, as ties are often printed or woven in such patterns. I chose the split complementary color scheme of Blue/Yellow Orange/Red Orange to create this skyline. Most of the buildings are made with diaper patterns, but a few are not, to give the eye a rest. The “road” in front of the buildings is sparkly with highlights in yellow orange and red orange to suggest traffic. The sky behind the buildings features a bright red-orange and yellow-orange sunset. The lake and its reflections are stitched in a horizontal Pavillion variation, which suggests motion. The colors of the sunset were suggested by looking at many photos of Chicago at sunset.
