Third Place, Professional Original
Flutterbye is worked completely in pink: pink threads, pink beads, pink sequins, etc. Various embroidered flowers fill the butterfly shape, most of them various surface embroidery techniques—but on canvas, of course. I had hoped to make a whimsical piece executed in a variety of needlework techniques, threads, and other embellishment. One flower is executed in stem stitch shading. Another is worked in the very useful needlelace cloth stitch. A third is done in a raised technique borrowed from stumpwork. A fourth is in needle weaving. The design was inspired by a crocheted piece seen on Pinterest.
This piece can be conceived as a salute to femininity or just a joyous expression of the needlearts.
