Marlene’s Christmas Stocking by Marlene Doak

First Place, Professional Non-Original without Instructions

When friends suggested it was time to update my Christmas stocking stitched more than 35 years ago (all in basketweave),I found this Edie and Ginger piece in my stash. It was purchased some 40 years ago when we lived in Pennsylvania. Since I now teach embellishment classes in Minnesota, it was fun to select fancy threads and stitches for the woodland creatures using Medici wool. Burmilana, Rainbow Linen, Impressions were picked to give texture and dimension for the animals. Skip tent in different directions helped define the slopes and Sandy’s slide was used for snow on the trees. This piece was made to compliment the woodland animal stocking for my husband Jim that won a ribbon several years ago at The Exemplary.
