1st place, Professional Non-Original with Instruction

I took this class from Deborah at the EGA National Seminar in 2016. It was fun to stitch, although I found adding the beads to anchor the smoke clouds to be boring. I got the wrong smoke cloud anchored to the right, and didn’t want to undo it. So I rearranged the remaining clouds so they would be balanced.

The original design included a symbol for “fire dragon”. I have been learning Tai Chi Chuan in which pearls play a role, so I replaced the symbol with a pearl. Because the dragon has a pearl, my penny rug is no longer Huo Long, The Fire Dragon; it is Huangjia Long, the Royal Dragon.
