This butterfly is getting just a tipple of nectar from luscious lavender lilac flowers as it flutters busily from one to another. My original photograph is printed twice – first on a lower layer of cotton fabric, then an upper layer of Lutrador – a Pellon material. In the area of the flowers the Lutrador has been randomly melted away to suggest a sense of depth. The foreground flowers and leaves are stitched and beaded for interest, with the attached butterfly adding dimension. The outline of the raised butterfly wings is cloth wire covered using a buttonhole stitch.
