Ammonite by Carol Pedersen

My husband is into rocks, fossils, etc. Seeing a photo of an ammonite, I decided to stitch it for him. I enlarged the photo, then drew the outline on canvas. This I presented to Debbie Stiehler to recommend threads and stitches for her class, Interpreting the Painted Canvas at NAN in 2019. Debbie was unfamiliar with this type of fossil, so researched it. We used reverse applique for the “hollow” crystal-lined chambers, a new procedure for me. So, we both learned something new! I finished it as a large ornament and it now sits in an easel.
