Greeting Card by Susie Williams

Second Place, Professional Adaptation

This lovely greeting card postmarked 1910 became the inspiration for the little cottage embroidery. I had initially thought to create the piece as a focal point in a crazy quilt block but (sigh) the block has yet to be made and the project is at the moment on “hold.”

Most of the embroidery in this country scene is done with long/short stitches and French knots over carefully chosen fabrics. I decided on a spray of light apricot needlelace flowers in the foreground to accent the delicate blush color already present in the landscape fabric.

This was an absolutely delightful piece to work on, and unlike most of my projects not that difficult to do!
