The black and white design of an old mill is based on my pen and ink drawing, later with watercolor added. I wanted to achieve in yarn the same contrast of value, and texture that had worked in the other medium. The mill wasor is—near Atlanta, and we just happened on it while driving around. I was able to grab some time for some quick photos and a few doodles before my family’s patience evaporated. The empty linen worked for the negative space, helping the contrast. It’s not “blackwork”, but it’s blackwork, and I used the same principles to do it.
