Shooting Star by Debra Steaffens

Third Place, Non-Professional Original

Shooting Star is a re-interpretation of an original piece entitled “Hope” that I designed, stitched and donated to a charity auction of End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin. A few years passed and I wanted to stitch the piece for myself, but not as an exact duplicate. To that end, I changed the canvas from 18-count to Congress cloth, the colors from purple/silver to red/gold, some of the stitches and added beading. I also reduced the size. I finished the piece in time for the Madison Area Chapter EGA’s 40th (Ruby) Anniversary in 2018.

Shooting Star is stitched on 24-count black Congress cloth using Kreinik braid, ribbon Accentuate, and beads. Stitches/techniques include composite stitches for the border, upright Gobelin, backstitch, couching and beading.
