Honorable Mention

I saw this Kathy Rees design at the 2013 EGA National Seminar. The finished piece seemed incredibly large with an endless number of stitches. I knew it would teach me a lot and yet I sensed that it would be “fun”. It was!

It is stitched on 18-count mono canvas with Carol Watercolours, perle cotton, various silk and cotton stranded flosses and overdyed metallic thread. Stitches include variations of the Waffle, Gobelin, Scotch, Jessica, Smyrna, Walneto, Woven Trellis, Diamond Pavilion, Star, Byzantine, Eyelet, Plated Ray, Rhodes and Tent.

The merchant was out of the original peacock color way kit, so I picked her alternate Monsoon color way, which fits in perfectly in our home. I stitched the piece as instructed, except for a couple of thread changes near the bottom to add more contrast and sparkle where I felt it was needed.
