Honorable Mention
While designing How Shall I Shade Thee?, a piece to compare the three techniques of shading in Blackwork, I knew I wanted to stitch a companion piece that combined the three techniques using the same fabric, design, color values and threads in the two pieces.
This piece is worked on 28-count linen in DMC threads. The color values I used were not what I originally intended. Because floche and perle 12 come in a much more limited palette than floss, or even perle 8, I found that these were the only color values (822, 644, 642, 640 and 3787 as the edging) that allowed me to obtain the range of shading and threads to create the two pieces.
This cube has four sections ranging from the fewest stitches worked in the lightest value of the thinnest thread, through the densest stitching worked in the darkest value of the heaviest thread.
