This is the rendition of the first Stitch-at-Home-Challenge on September, 2016, from the San Francisco School of Needlework and Design. The school provided the line drawing as the inspiration for the design, which I simplified by removing the grapevines. The choice of colors and techniques were up to the stitcher; I decided on a complementary color scheme and needlepainting technique.
The background is painted to give the impression of light shimmering on the water, as the sun sets behind the hills.

The hills are constructed by searing the edges of hand-dyed silk organza, and attached using invisible threads. The poppies are golden California poppies, needlepainted with long-and-short stitches, with bullion knots for the stamens.
