Third Place

What was I thinking when I selected this piece? I have been taking classes from Kathy Stolpin at The Needleworks store in Birmingham, Michigan for several years. I had my eye on this piece for several months as it hung on the wall… begging me to buy it and make it come alive.

I was intrigued by the lady in the hat, brim pulled over her eyes very Audrey Hepburn-esque. I was anxious to help make her outfit and her roses come to life. My instructor did a great job of helping me select the threads and come up with the stitches that would best suit the piece.

I had much fun with the ribbon roses, which really do make it special. We chose an open and airy stitch for the background so that it wouldn’t take away from the mysterious lady holding a bouquet of roses
