Lazarus is the result of our Green Bay Area Chapter of the EGA study in Shisha mirrors. I wanted to use the shisha mirror embroidery in conjunction with the other mixed media embroidery that I like to do. The head is free form embroidery, and the body is embroidered using various stitches on hand dyed silk. The five, four-pointed stars down the lizard’s back are the shisha mirror embroidery which give the lizard a certain sparkle. The eyes are flat backed crystals. Beads play a predominant role in the textural embroidery. He is sitting on a leaf which is suggested by the chainstitched outline in the background.
